Sharia Law
Sharia Law in Australia is limited to personal Islamic ethics and laws. While Sharia or Islamic laws operate alongside Australian laws, sometimes legal remedies alone may not be sufficient. For example, a legal divorce through the Federal Circuit and Family Court is valid legally, but a female cannot remarry without a Sharia law divorce.
Different sects of Islam have developed varying Sharia laws. In principle, most Sharia laws are consistent with one another, though some differences exist. Financial matters under Sharia laws often need to work together with Australian laws to achieve the best public interest outcomes.
